About the colloquium 'CITY, TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY I: Urban Planning, Practice, and Management

CALL FOR PAPERS

As urban challenges continue to multiply, the need for innovative and integrated approaches to city planning is becoming increasingly urgent. Population growth, pressure on natural resources, mobility issues, and the transition to sustainable development models require a deep reflection on how we design and manage our urban environments (United Nations, 2019).

The first edition of the colloquium "CITY, TECHNOLOGY, AND SUSTAINABILITY I" aligns with this dynamic of reflection and innovation. Under the theme "Planning, Practice, and Management," this event aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore the complex interrelations between urban planning, user practices, and the integration of digital technologies.

In a global context marked by smart city initiatives and sustainable development concerns, it is crucial to analyze how technologies can transform urban management methods and improve citizens' quality of life. Cities such as Vancouver, with its Greenest City 2020 Action Plan, as well as Helsinki, Barcelona, Medellin, and Singapore (Zaman, S., and Hertweck, C., 2022; Veloso, Á., Fonseca, F., and Ramos, R., 2024), represent examples of planning that integrates sustainability principles and advanced digital infrastructures, impacting key areas such as mobility, the environment, governance, daily life, and the economy. Lessons learned from these initiatives will provide valuable insights for the future of urban development.

This colloquium aims to create a platform for exchange and idea-sharing, where participants can discuss contemporary challenges. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, we aspire to generate constructive reflections and innovative solutions to address the challenges our cities face today.
